Our History

Belgrade Sales and Service was started in 1976 by Bob & Pat Wyer.  It was founded on the principal of "servicing what we sell."  That is still the heart and soul of this company today.  It's owned and operated by Bob Wyer, his daughter Roberta Guffey, and grandson Jason Guffey.  The business was expanded in 1985 to accomodate the ever-expanding lines of farm, ranch, lawn, and garden equipment we carry.  In 2004, we again expanded by adding new storage facilities behind our main building.

Belgrade Sales has long been regarded as "the place" to take anything mechanical that isn't working properly.  In the service department we employ 5 year-round mechanics:  Bert Crawford, Doug Amundson, Marvin Stone, Tyler Stone, and Suzanne Gilbert.  In our Sales and Parts department is Niki Patterson, Jordon Thronson, and Nicole Kegel.

Anything you ever needed to know or find, when it comes to small engines and equipment, can be found with the vast resources and knowledge of the staff at Belgrade Sales & Service.  If you're having a problem with equipment, we know how to solve it.

Belgrade Sales & Service has lived up to it's name since 1976.  We try to be there with what you need, when you need it!  "None of it would be possible without the loyalty and faithful patronage of you, our customers and friends."

In 2006 The Belgrade News featured the following article about Belgrade Sales & Service and our Celebration of 30 Years of Business:

Bob and Pat Wyer just have a way of making things work.
If a mower is sputtering, they'll get it chewing grass again.  If an irrigation pump is seized up, they can make it water and bring it back to life.  If a generator dies, they can spark it back to life.
For the founders of Belgrade Sales & Service, it's their job, it's their specialty, and it's the story of their lives:  give them a problem and somehow they will make a go of it.
"If you ask me why we came here, I'd tell you 'I have no idea,'" Bob said.  "But I'm sure glad we did!"
The Wyers moved to a little town called Belgrade in 1976.  Bob was born and raised in Kansas.  Pat grew up in Wyoming.  The couple was on the move, with no particular destination in mind, when they happened onto the Gallitin Valley.
Pat vaguely recognized the name "Belgrade", and the town seemed nice enough.  They figured they'd try to make a go of it.
     They did.
Bob ran a liquid fertilizer plant in Kansas in the 1950's, and had been a farmer, soldier and fire fighter at different times in his life.  The opportunity came along to purchase a small equipment repair shop on Broadway.  They decided to try and make it work.
     They did.
Three decades later, Belgrade Sales & Service is the model of small business success in a city where such examples are far too unique.
"They put their heart and soul into running a small family business," said the couple's daughter Roberta Guffey, who has been involved in the business since 1978.
Bob and Pat purchased Belgrade Sales & Service in 1976 when it was just a small building occupying what is now the Valley Bank parking lot on North Broadway.
The family had no experience, in the business, but Bob became a master technician, Pat took care of the books and Roberta handled the sales.
Before long the company took off.  In 1985 the shop had to be expanded and moved across the street to a new location.  They were selling every manor of farm, ranch, lawn and garden accessory and fixing equipment as fast as people could find a way to break it.
For a community steeped in agriculture, Belgrade Sales & Service was a commercial cornerstone.
"We have been very grateful for the loyal patronage of the farm and ranch community all these years." Bob said.
The company still prides itself on the work it does for agriculture.  But Belgrade Sales & Service also has to accommodate the changing climate of the Gallatin Valley, as farming and ranching gives way to construction and development.
"Everything is just at a lot faster pace now," Bob explained.  "And the city is still growing."
Bob and Pat are still involved with the day-to-day operations of the company, along with Roberta, six technicians, five sales people and another book keeper.
Even at the age of 80, in a community as dynamic as Belgrade, the couple is still finding a way to make things work.
"We have to thank our employees for all the great work they have done over the years," Bob said.
